This page describes the ins and outs of lanning with the StreetGeek crew. It covers the who, what, when, why, how, and maybe. If you cannot find an answer on this page to your question, please contact us via email or on Social Media.

What is a LAN Party?

A party where people bring their own computers, hook them up, and game all night long with each other. Traditionally, the LAN Party started off as a PC only exclusive event, but has now evolved to include console gaming as well as elements of board games and tabletop gaming.

What makes StreetGeek LAN Parties unique is that we focus on the more social, non-competitive side of video gaming

What sort of people attend StreetGeek LANs?

The majority of StreetGeek attendees are aged between 15 and 30. A typical member is a non-competitive gamer (for the most part), playing casually in a variety of games, and spending around 4 hours per week gaming.

When does the event start and finish?

StreetGeek LAN events typically start on Friday at 7:00 PM and run until 9:00 PM on the Saturday (that’s right, 26 hours straight). The doors to the event will be open from 6:00 PM for people who need to arrive early due to transportation requirements. Ticket sales will start from 6:30 PM. Please note that no attendee’s will be allowed entrance into the gaming areas until 7:00 PM on the Friday due to safety concerns.

StreetGeek events are run bi-monthly and the exact date of each one varies. For more specific details, please see our Events page.

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

StreetGeek is a family friendly event, but we also recognize the need for safety and protection of minors. If you are under the age of 18 and want to be at the event unsupervised, we require you to be at least 15 years or over . If you are under the age of 15, you will need to have a parent or guardian in attendance with you at all times. If this parent or guardian is coming to the event to simply accompany you and not to game, they qualify for free entry.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

There is plenty of on site parking available at the Colonel Light Gardens Uniting Church, please park in the main car park when you arrive at the event (Entrance off Aver Avenue). There are also bus stops near by, we recommend Stop 14 on Goodwood Road, check local timetables or Google Maps for bus routes that suit.

What do I need to bring?

StreetGeek will provide the majority of the infrastructure required, such as tables, chairs, power runs and networking equipment. However, if you are planning on gaming in the PC area, StreetGeek is a Bring Your Own PC (BYOPC) event so you will need to bring the following:

  • 5m or longer Cat5e or Cat6 network cable.
  • Computer, laptop or Console
  • Monitor
  • Power board (surge protected is recommended)
  • Power cables for your computer and monitor
  • VGA, DVI or HDMI cable
  • Keyboard and mouse
  • Headphones (Speakers are not permitted in the main PC area)

If you are planning on gaming in the Console/Social area, there is a large amount of Consoles and televisions that StreetGeek provides. However, you may wish to bring any of the following:

  • Consoles
  • Controllers
  • Televisions (We have a handful of TVs for you to use, but bring your own if you can!)
  • Speakers (Speakers are permitted only in the social/console area)
  • Games
  • Board games

The following are also recommended for all attendees:

  • Weather appropriate clothing (it can get cold in winter and hot in summer in the venue)
  • Sleeping gear
  • Toiletries (remember to bring deodorant!)
  • Cash for entry fee and for snacks & drinks on the day

Please do not bring any drugs or alcohol with you to the event, as StreetGeek LAN Parties are drug free zones and are dry events. If you also have various power sucking equipment such as microwaves, toasters, kettles or heaters, please leave these at home as they play havoc on our power infrastructure. Most of these can be accessed at the event, just ask one of the members of the friendly StreetGeek staff.

I’ve already bought a ticket and don’t want to come anymore, can I get a refund?

No refunds will be given for ticket purchases if you simply change your mind. If you want to request a refund for any other reason, please contact us
